​Welcome Bill
 
At GODTEL’s Second-Quarter Board of Directors’ meeting we were blessed to accept William Stevens as a new Board member. Bill had worked with us back in the late ‘70’s when we were first getting started in Nacogdoches and we attended Prayer-and-Praise meetings in his home. His dear wife is the former Kathy Kalkomey.

For years Bill and Kathy lived in West Texas (Amarillo, Lubbock and El Paso) but retired back to Nacogdoches. We are grateful that he has agreed to be a part of GODTEL’s ministry to the homeless and needy.
 
New Chairs Times Two
 
The phone in our Nacogdoches office rang one day in early March. The caller asked Kathleen if we would be interested in receiving 38 chairs from their waiting room. Bro. June and Mike Lahr (Kathleen’s husband) went to look them over and immediately began to transport them to the mission. They are now set up in our chapel area where we conduct church services on Sunday evenings. Several people have commented that they are very thankful for the padded comfort these chairs provide. (See photos in next column.)

Additionally, the folding metal chairs we used at our dining tables had been demonstrating the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics (everything is going from a state of order to disorder) and breaking. Since we had money left in our building fund, we decided to purchase 48 sturdy chairs for our dining area.
 
You are welcome to come at meal time any day of the week to enjoy our new chairs and have a meal with us or come join us for Sunday evening worship service at 7:00 p.m. and experience our new chapel chairs. The welcome mat is out! Ya’ll come.
 
What/Who is Coming?
 
The headline refers to a “blessed” event to take place in September this year when we are expecting our 14th grandchild.
Our youngest son, Joshua has posted an announcement on Facebook with the above caption emblazoned across the top. This posting  contains pictures of Joshua and his wife Erin and is announcing the approaching birth of their first child. It has the appearance of a Star Trek movie poster. (The color is significant—it’s magenta/pink.) Congratulations to and prayers for the mom and dad.

I don’t know if I am more excited about that or the fact that the Feast of Trumpets begins on September 10th this year. (The return of Jesus Christ will fulfill this feast.)

Blueberry Pancakes
 
       This month we are anticipating the return of the Nacogdoches Kiwanis Club to prepare blueberry pancakes for our residents as a “warm-up” for the Annual Blueberry Festival held in Nacogdoches in June each year. If you are able to attend the festival, be sure to give their blueberry pancakes a try. We heartily recommend them. (Yum-yum! My mouth is watering just thinking about them.)
 
Synthetic Marijuana
 
We recently had a young woman stay at our Livingston mission who broke my heart. She was lovely, intelligent, and had come from a “good” home. However, she and some “friends” had decided to try some synthetic marijuana, a very unpredictable experience. She can no longer function as she once could and will never be able to reach the potential she originally possessed. That daring experiment has ruined her life.

One young man staying at our Lufkin mission last year tried synthetic marijuana and we found him lying in the parking lot having convulsions. His convulsions were so severe, his pants had worked down from his waist and he was exposed. Though he survived, his violation of our “no- drug-use” rule lost him the food and shelter we were providing.

Many of the people we minister to at GODTEL are addicted to narcotics, alcohol, and nicotine. Why are there so many people trying to escape natural life, damaging their bodies in the process? Some do not know Jesus and are seeking to fill or mask their emptiness. Others do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God.

Please pray that we can clearly present God’s truths that can set these people free.
