GODTEL Ministries is pleased to announce the recent graduation of Jason, Steven and Levi from the first class of the Christian Men’s Job Corps. Twelve weeks of classes were completed by these three men.
Monday evening, August 6th at 6:00 pm the ceremony began. An opening prayer was said. The emcee welcomed us. There was a short informative talk about the job corps and the Jobs for Life curriculum. We watched a short video with testimonies of former students who had completed the 12 week session. Acknowledgements and appreciation were extended to all who had a part in the success of this first class. The Executive Board, the Advisory Committee, the Director, the students and, of course, the unseen and willing volunteers all played a part in this project. One at a time Jason, Levi and Steven stepped on stage. Each man received a certificate, a ring and a study Bible. And, of course, you can not have a celebratory gathering without refreshments. There was cake, punch and coffee available as we mingled and congratulated the graduates. P.S. And we got to bring the rest of that very delicious cake home to share with the other residents. In the meantime... EMPLOYMENT REPORT:
A lot of friends and family have packed up their mini-vans and headed out to the great summer adventure known as the summer vacation. We did not have to leave home to experience another country. East Texas got up close and personal with the Sahara Desert. Two times this summer we were visited by the dust remnants of a grand sand storm from the great continent of Africa. It is amazing to realize that dust sailed across the Atlantic, toward the Gulf of Mexico and into Texas. Then it traveled to east and west Texas. The dusty haze lingered about two days at each visit. It was, almost, like being back in west Texas...watery eyes, runny nose and sneezes. Ah, the memories. We survived the month without Joseph. Our Lufkin team consists of Martin, Mary, Dolores, Christi, Jesse, Crystal, and Warren. God is faithful in allowing us to get the work done and starting over the next day. We had to do another heat treatment in the men’s dorm to “kick out” the bed bugs. Due to the already existing summer heat it didn’t take long to reach the high temperature needed for the treatment process. Two rooms a day were treated thus filling up the days of that week. I am not sad to say those pesky critters are gone. Praise the Lord. The number stayed high in the women’s dorm. Many have been here quite a while. Some came and then left and were back before the end of the month. Christina has lived here since January. She is engaged to Steven (The Fieldhouse graduate). Christina is planning to attend The Mosaic Center. Steven has just started a job at a fitness place in town. Jesse had eye surgery and it was a success. He is waiting on surgery for his other eye. In the meantime, he is helping with the chickens and garden and taking care of Dolores and the kitchen. Katelynn and her son are getting ready for school to start. He has been enrolled and will attend Kurth Primary School. The bus will pick him up and drop him off not too far from us. Then Katelynn will have time to look for a job and a place to live. Sadly, one of our residents died while living here. One Saturday morning he headed out and as he was crossing the street a car hit him. We pray that he was listening in Bible study while he was here and that his eternal destiny is upwards with God and not the alternative. We had guest cooks show up. We ate pizza, a tomato noodle casserole and a chicken noodle casserole with some very delicious fried okra from our own garden. Yummy! Our granddaughter celebrated her second birthday. We drove to Spring to see this precious girl. Children were all over the house. Candles and cake were on the table waiting for the birthday girl to blow them out. Gifts galore were opened. It is so amazing to see this toddler become a little sister following her older sister about and doing activities together. This reminded me that we are to follow Christ not stand on the sidelines as a fan. Thank you for your support. Because we serve a Living God, Martin and Mary Baker |
